These "Star Wars" Hockey Jerseys Will Finally Bring Nerds And Jocks Together

The jerseys will raise money for local food banks.

The Saskatoon Blades have thrilled jocks and nerds alike with these Star Wars themed hockey jerseys.

Yes, that's a scene from the ice planet Hoth, which is kind of what Saskatoon looks like for much of the year.

The junior hockey team will wear the Star Wars swag during a game on Nov. 28, after which the jerseys will be auctioned off and proceeds donated to local food banks.

Maclean Nelson, the team's communications manager, told BuzzFeed Canada this is just one of many ways the team tries to reach new people.

"From bringing your pets to the game, to bringing newcomers to Canada to the game, this is just one of the events we are doing to showcase the Saskatoon Blades game experience to people all over," he said.

The jerseys were made with approval from Lucasfilm, which is also providing some Star Wars characters to hang out for the game against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, Nelson said, and the players themselves "are more than excited."

The players' own names will still be on their jerseys, but the Blades are also making jerseys with Star Wars characters' names emblazoned on them, including Skywalker, Vader, Maul, Yoda, and Solo.

Even the Blades' Saskatchewan rivals, the Regina Pats, are impressed.
