On Thursday he tweeted out a photo of his new phone case, which shows Kelly against a City of Toronto backdrop.
Tagging @norm, he wrote: “Just got a new phone case with a photo of my dad on it. Couldn't be happier."
Asked why he would get the photo of a 74-year-old local Canadian politician on his phone, Wakefield told CBC News it was because Norm "seems super chill."

Wakefield told BuzzFeed Canada he became aware of the Toronto councillor during the great Drake-Meek Mill beef of 2015, when Norm became Drake's biggest backer.
"I heard about him when he started to post stuff on the rap beef between Drake and Meek Mill," Wakefield said. "I thought he was a complete savage."

Since then he has racked up almost 150,000 followers on Twitter and now mixes his tweets about municipal affairs with plenty of memes and jokes. Also he's become a weird Twitter Dad to many of his young followers.

Oh, and he's also BFFs with Drake now.

"I like how he's 'older' but has input into 'younger' topics," Wakefield told BuzzFeed Canada. "Like I've never met someone over 50 who even knows he Drake is."
Wakefield said he got the Norm phone case as a joke that not even his friends really understood, and the amount of attention it's gotten has been a surprise.
He also says it's not really that weird for a teenager from Michigan to follow a Toronto politician.
"When he tweets about potholes and other local news I usually just scroll through those tweets," Wakefield told BuzzFeed Canada. "But he'll definitely keep me as a follow."
