The Mother At The Centre Of Primark Breastfeeding Row Has Been Charged By Police

Caroline Starmer claimed that a security guard removed her baby while she was breastfeeding the child.

A mother who claimed a Primark security guard took away her baby while she was breastfeeding the child has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Earlier this month, Caroline Starmer, a 28-year-old fom Leicester, claimed that a security guard took away her daughter while she was breastfeeding in a store in the city centre.

However, the store denied the event occurred, and CCTV footage was handed over to the police.

On Tuesday, Leicestershire police announced Starmer had been charged and will appear in court next month.

The force said in a statement:

A 28-year-old woman has been summoned to appear at court charged with intent to pervert the course of public justice.

It follows an allegation made in which a woman claimed that while in a store in Humberstone Gate, Leicester, on Monday 13 July, she was assaulted by a security guard.

Caroline Starmer, of Leicester, is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday 24 August.

Criminal proceedings have now commenced and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.

It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.

A Primark spokesperson told BuzzFeed News: "Primark notes the announcement made today by Leicestershire police that Caroline Starmer has been summoned to appear at court charged with perverting the course of public justice.

"Primark has cooperated fully with police investigators, and will not be commenting further on the ongoing proceedings against Mrs Starmer."
