13 Reasons You Should Live In Philly At Least Once In Your Life

After living here, you'll be Philly Made. Temple University is Philadelphia's public university. #TakeCharge of your future, and look to see what being #TempleMade can do for you.

1. You can step up your selfie game by posing in front of history 🇺🇸 at Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

UHHHH...THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WAS MADE HERE! The actual U.S. of A. was made here. By signing the Declaration of Independence in THIS building in 1776, the country was born. Another national treasure forever sits across the street. With its iconic crack, the bell cast by Pass and Stow serves as a symbol of liberty. As if you needed any more of a reason to visit one of the most historic sites in the country...

2. You can harness your entrepreneurial mindset 💼 by getting involved with the thriving startup scene.

3. You'll be able to satisfy your inner foodie at one of the amazing restaurants 🍴 around the city...

With cuisines that span the full array of the food spectrum, you'll be able to get a meal that will tickle your taste buds. Be sure to stop in for tapas at Amada, endless steak frites at Garces Trading Co., fish tacos at Buena Onda, or any of the other restaurants from James Beard Award–winning Iron Chef Jose Garces.

...or get your noms 😋 on with one of the many storied local eats.

Even with the city's award-winning dining options, Philadelphia will be forever associated with its cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. At some point, you'll definitely find yourself at Tony Luke's, waiting to order a "whiz wit." (Philly rule of thumb: When ordering a cheesesteak, state the type of cheese and if you want it with or without fried onions.)

4. Your new workout plan 💪 can include running along the Schuylkill banks and Kelly Drive...

Breathe In. Breathe Out. That's right, put in work 'til the sweat all falls down! Even if you have slow jams blastin' through your headphones, running along the Schuylkill River will seem like you're walking on graduation day with the amazing scenery in the background.

...and doing some yoga 🙏 for FREE on Race Street Pier.

5. You can get inspired by the art 🎨 in the famous Philadelphia Museum of Art...

...or in Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. ✨

While cooling on South Street, be sure to stop by and marvel at the delight of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, the most prominent exhibit of award-winning mural artist Isaiah Zagar.

6. You can hang around with your bae 💘 at seasonal pop-ups like Spruce Street Harbor Park.

Located along the Delaware River, Spruce Street Harbor is one of the more popular hangout spots during the summer months. You can do EVERYTHING from swinging in hammocks to renting paddle boats and kayaks to relaxing on nets hanging over the water to eating and drinking at the various vendors that call Spruce Street Harbor home.

7. You can partake in all the festivities 🎉 that take place at the Piazza...

Located in the heart of Northern Liberties, the Piazza has evolved into one of Philly's best local hangouts. With numerous live events, restaurants, and bars, the Piazza is a great place to take a date, enjoy some wooder ice while watching the game on the big screen, or debate why jawn hasn't incorporated itself into the national vernacular.

...or in Rittenhouse Square. 🌷 🌳

Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool is what you'll be doing at the park at 18th and Walnut. Home to annual flower markets, art exhibitions, and holiday decorations, Rittenhouse Square is fresh any time of year.

10. You can get shook 👹 down the hall from Al Capone's jail cell at Eastern State Penitentiary.

Opened in 1829, Eastern State Penitentiary was the most expensive prison of its day.
