10 Famous Underdogs Who Flipped The Script

We all have that soft spot in our hearts for a little nerdiness. Here are some of our favorite former dorks who went from OK to OMG. Check out Breckin Meyer in TNT’s Franklin and Bash for the ultimate “dorky-to-decked out” happy ending.

1. Neil Patrick Harris

Most people know him now as the super hip and handsome Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother, but two-time Emmy winner Neil Patrick Harris got his start as child genius Doogie Howser on Doogie Howser MD.

2. John Francis Daley

Playing the epitome of the 1980 nerd in Freaks and Geeks, John Francis Daley now plays super sleek Dr. Lance Sweets on Bones.

3. Lizzy Caplan

Lizzy Caplan is always playing the cool and collected character like in Party Down and Bachelorette, but who can forget her goth-chic days in Mean Girls?

4. Matthew Lewis

We watched Lewis’ character in Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom, go from shy and awkward to a hero. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 grossed $1,327,979,042, even for non-Harry Potter fans, that’s something to cheer about.

5. Shia LaBeouf

Before taking over corporate America in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which earned nine-million on its first day in theaters, Shia got his start on the Disney Channel show Even Stevens as an annoying little brother. Oh, how things have changed.

6. Anthony Michael Hall

You might remember him from his mega-nerdy roles in the 90’s classics Weird Science and The Breakfast Club, but Anthony Michael Hall eventually grew up to star as a jock in the movie Edward Scissorhands.

7. Sarah Jessica Parker

Before she was hanging on the dorm room walls of every fashion design student in the world, Sarah Jessica Parker was the head nerd on the 80’s teen show Square Pegs.

8. Scarlett Johansson

She may have kicked butt in The Avengers (which raked in over $1,036,000,000!), but back in the day young Scarlett was an awkward and misunderstood teenager in Ghost World. How would have thought!?

9. Josh Hutcherson

Before he was fighting for his life in The Hunger Games, Josh was just an awkward kid in movies like Bridge to Terabithia and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

10. Breckin Meyer

Whew, forget that young kid with stringy hair, the new Breckin is nothin’ but a hot piece of man. Breckin Meyer played the perfect 90’s stoner in the 1995 movie Clueless, but nowadays he’s the super cool lawyer Jared on Franklin and Bash.
