How To Explain Gay Rights To An Idiot

Because a certain segment of the population still connects marriage equality with being able to marry anyone and/or thing you want. It's kind of messed up that this still needs to be explained. posted

  • A lot of people make the argument too that because gays can marry, people will all of a sudden want to marry their siblings and cousins. Gay marriage is legal in fewer states in America than first cousin marriage, though.

  • Before I start playing devil's advocate, let me say that I fully support gay marriage. I feel the need to point out, however, that this argument would apply to a couple of other situations as well that not everybody would welcome. I stress that the questions arising are genuine questions, not rhetorical ones. This is Adam. He is a male adult capable of making his own decisions (etc.)
    This is Steve. He is a male adult (etc.)
    This is Cara. She is a female adult capable of making her own decisions, etc.
    Adam, Steve, and Cara are all mutually attracted, and wish to spend the rest of their lives together. Should they be allowed to marry? Yes, I know, in practice polygamy historically has mostly not meant mutual consent or equal sharing of partners. But, for much of history and in many cultures, neither has monogamous marriage. Some people do live polyamorously without inequality; 33/33/33 is just as equal as 50/50. And they say they love each other, and who am I to judge? And a second scenario.
    Bruce is an adult capable of making his own decisions. Wanda is also an adult capable of making her own decisions. Bruce and Wanda meet, fall in love, and discover that they share many life goals and plans — in particular, it so happens that both have children from previous relationships, and both have taken surgical steps to ensure that they won't have any more. They decide to get married and live out their lives together. Then Bruce and Wanda discover that they share the same biological parents. Can anyone produce a moral reason why they shouldn't go ahead and become sex partners? Because they can't legally. To reiterate, they are consenting adults, they have no childhood relationship to spoil, and they won't be producing any damaged offspring. What's left?

  • I've met idiots from both sides. Not all Christian Fundamentalists are idiots and not all Gay Rights Advocates are either.  But, people on the whole are mentally uninterested and a tad lazy in reasoning things out, which is weird because they put so much pride into being right. Strange, but not really in the context of human character. I guess that's why they flock to socially proven arguments and commence their triumphant march of;  “Oh, look at me! I got it right! Arn't I a clever one. How dare you have that view point! Can't you see how wrong you are! Look at the pictures! It's all illustrated out for you there!”  I've come to find that people who know what they are talking about, usually are not the ones talking.

  • State-sanctioned “marriage” (as opposed to “marriage” sanctioned by a religious authority or by two persons who privately pledge to be “married”) is merely a set of PROPERTY rights intended to protect and nurture children. State-sanctioned “marriage” gives the couple mutual property rights that enhance the couple’s financial stability to encourage them to invest resources in bearing and nurturing children. Its rationale does not apply to same-sex couples who are naturally, and ethically, disqualified from parenthood. Same-sex couples, like some single heterosexual adults who rely on artificial insemination or surrogates to produce children without a spouse, ethically disqualify themselves from parenthood by selfishly withholding from children a fundamental human right – the right to be born to a mother and a father. Intentionally denying a child a mother and father is child abuse. The so-called “human rights” campaign seems little concerned about the human rights of children. If parents deny their child court-ordered payments of money, the parents are jailed. But if parents deny their child the fundamental right to a mother and father, we pat the parents on the back for advancing “human rights”.  Adults, whether heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual, who would intentionally deny artificially-created children a mother and a father, should be legally barred from artificial insemination and from surrogately-conceiving children. Hospitalization is certainly foreseeable for people who engage in high-risk behavior that regularly transmits serious and sometimes deadly infections. If two people want to be able to visit in the hospital, they can give one another medical power of attorney. That is far simpler and uses much less paper than getting married or divorced.

  • It doesn't matter if you think gay marriage is gross or wrong or whatever, the fact is, they are consenting adults and there is no reason you or me or anyone should be able to decide if they can get married or not. Even if God condemns them or whatever, it isn't hurting you. Let them make their decisions and go to Hell, if you thinks that's what is going to happen. Gay marriage does not infringe on YOUR rights in ANY way, but having it be illegal DOES hurt those who want to marry someone of the same sex. everyone is equal
    man=woman
    man=man
    woman=woman
    therefore
    man+woman=man+man=woman+woman
    it is THE SAME

  • Matthew 19:4–6
    4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’ ? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
    Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with ra male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
    Romans 1:26–27
    26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
    Genesis
    God made the first man and woman—the first marriage. Thus, marriage can only be a man and a woman because we are accountable to the One who made marriage in the first place. And don’t forget—according to Scripture, one of the primary reasons for marriage is to produce godly offspring.11 Adam and Eve were told to be fruitful and multiply, but there’s no way a gay marriage can fulfill this command!

  • Un- , in- , its , it's … comical with all the grammatical nitpickers. Surely they will find some error(s) here. Anyone ever hear of a typographical error?
    Additionally, is there a special exception for toaster ovens?

  • This is unbelievable. How stupid do you have to be to get this. I find it quite comical! LOL! The last time a checked a human adult is a human adult. Not a toaster, dog or child. These slow, small minded people really need to mind their business. Who are you to deny anybody love. Again, comical. Have a wonderful day! ;)

  • The content is very useful, but the “ad” headline calling people who need this information “idiots” is divisive. It is a “buzz” insider way of talking about others who do not agree with the insider—that's not 99%, nor is it helpful.

  • I LOVE this!! Can your next one be on the rights that married partners get but civil unions do not?
    Again, absolutely fantastic. Thanks!

  • ב”ה I just have a discussion with the person I learn Talmud with. He and I both agree that the government should permit gay marriage as a civil “thing” — where we disagree is this — I think that the Rabbis (who tell Gays they are sinning but doesn't exactly say how or what they should do about being gay) should come up with religious guidelines (BTW, someone should point out that the law has to do with civil marriage and doesn't force any religious institution to permit gay marriages within the framework of their religion — those who DO accept it, well and fine, but those who don't don't have to have it in their place of worship…… Remember, everyone, the only place in the Middle East where gays have rights (and can fight for the right to have a parade as opposed to other ME countries where gays are fighting for the right to live — just live) is Israel.

  • God gave man “free will” and we choose to do whatever we see fit. When we see something going on that we dont agree with, the general response is anger. Being a Christian, doesn't nessesarily mean you enforce the laws of God! We need only to obey HIM and pray for all sinners without looking down our noses at them. After all, All of us are sinners! We will all either pay for our sins, or be redeemed by the blood of Christ, NOT by our deeds. AMEN!

  • polygamy is inherently UNEQUAL. It is not only about consent, it is also about an equal relationship. 50/ 50. We recognize a marriage as two equal partners. Polygamy isn't that.

  • If you don't like Gay Marriage, don't marry someone who is gay. If you are married, you should understand why we want the right to marry as Gay individuals. If you don't understand, you don't love unconditionally and are a fake from the start.
