RCMP Constable Hugo Lévesque is one of three officers stationed in the small inlet of Tulita, NWT. He's now moving to Yellowknife. In recognition for his service a community elder made him a pair of beaded slippers.
Later that evening there was a jig competition during the community's Fire Day dance. Lévesque had never danced a jig before, but he grabbed those slippers out of his truck and gave it a go.
"It was complete improvisation on my part," Lévesque told CBC News. Did we mention Lévesque is ripped? This was a muscular Mountie jig.
At the end of his dance the Mountie decided to go for a big ending. "I danced for a little while, and then I figured for entertainment's sakes I'd just drop down and do the splits," he said.
Lévesque felt great about his performance. But there was one problem: he split his (tiiiight) jeans when doing that final move.
Here's the pants-splitting moment.
Word spread fast about Lévesque's jig. After all, there are only about 500 people in Tulita.
CBC North interviewed Lévesque, who was a good sport about the whole thing. Plus, he was awarded second place in the jig contest.
