Mexico Launches Gay Tourism Campaign #MexicoFriendly

In a surprising and bold move, Mexico launched yesterday a strong campaign to promote the country as a destination for gay tourists.

Even though Mexico City legalized gay marriage in 2009, the country is still considered to be pretty conservative. Only Mexico City allows marriage equality and the state of Colima is in the work of legalizing civil unions for gay couples.

But yesterday, the Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) lauched the #MexicoFriendly campaign via Twitter and Facebook, to promote the country as a destination to gay travelers.

Acording to SECTUR, Mexico is the #2 favorite destination for gay tourists

The campaign was recieved with joy and surprise.

Let's hope this means a new policy regarding LGBT rights in the country.
