13 Reasons The '90s Ruled Hip-Hop Fashion

The '90s were the dopest era of hip-hop fashion. Tonight at 10:30 p.m. is the debut of Chozen, the new FX Network comedy series about a rapper with lyrics that go balls deep and a wardrobe that stays mad simple... because after 10 years in prison, anything beats an orange jumpsuit.

1. Flava Flav set trends, and people followed them.

2. Swag emerged as a form of currency.

3. Dope-ass chains were still a thing.

4. You could play "Lame DJ or Cool Ski Instructor" all day and never guess correctly.

5. "Hillbilly white boy" emerged as a hip-hop demographic.

6. In fact, if you were a white guy with abs and a mic, you were just handed a record deal.

7. The "Spooky Unabomber" look came into its own.

8. This look was considered hella sexy.*

9. Track suits were out... but not everybody got the memo.

10. Backup dancers started rocking that Buddhist monk look.

11. The line between "urban dance brigade" and "Mormon youth inspiration team" became blurry as hell.

12. It was always double-coupon day at the Off-Brand-Beastie-Store.

13. On the bright side, fly girls were as fly as ever.

That was then. This is now. Is Chozen the flyest, baddest, rawest rapper alive? Judge for yourself:
