1. Detective James Gordon

Who’s this guy? He’s the new rookie detective for the Gotham City Police Department’s Homicide Squad and our eyes in this town.

Why do we want to meet him? Because he turns out to be super important in the dark world of Gotham, grows a moustache, and becomes police commissioner. Does all his power come from facial hair? Let’s find out.

Goodie or baddie? Goodie. 100%. We love James Gordon so much we get to call him Jim.

2. Detective Harvey Bullock

Who’s this guy? He’s our guy Jim Gordon’s partner/mentor in the Homicide Squad and an old-school hardass.

Why do we want to meet him? Because he’s been in Gotham longer than anyone and knows all the ins and outs and criminal alliances. If we know Harvey Bullock, we know Gotham.

Goodie or baddie? Goodie. But a city can change a man.

3. Fish Mooney

Who’s this lady? She’s a Gotham nightclub owner and gang boss and completely terrifying. She wants to own this town.

Why do we want to meet her? Because we WISH we could live as fearlessly as she does. She’s a notoriously hotheaded sadist who does and says what she likes, gets free foot rubs off her lackeys, and can read people like a book with a massive typeface.

Goodie or baddie? Baddie. Of the baddest kind.

4. Bruce Wayne

Who’s this guy? You know who this guy is, come on.

Why do we want to meet this guy? Because we want to find out why he decided to dress up like a bat and defend his weird city, that’s why.

Goodie or baddie? Goodie. But an angry one.

5. Alfred Pennyworth

Who’s this guy? He’s a tough-as-nails Cockney ex-marine and Wayne family butler until their murder, at which point he becomes surrogate dad to young Master Bruce.

Why do we want to meet him? Because he’s the guy who looks after Bruce. Without him, who is there to look after Gotham after Jim?

Goodie or baddie? Goodie. Hard-as-nails, fierce, and unflappable goodie who’ll even tuck you in at night.

6. Oswald Cobblepot

Who’s this guy? He’s a low-level gangster for Fish Mooney who hides his sadistic lust for power with lovely, lovely manners.

Why do we want to meet him? Whatever happens now results in him becoming The Penguin, one of Gotham’s most iconic and bizarre villains.

Goodie or baddie? Baddie. But he gets even badder.

7. Selina Kyle

Who’s this girl? She’s a 14-year-old orphan who wears a great leather jacket and steals milk and money when she needs it.

Why do we want to meet her? We’ll never know what goes on in the mind of a cat, but Selina Kyle is our closest bet.

Goodie or baddie? Badass future baddie.

8. Edward Nygma

Who’s this guy? He’s a brilliant young forensic scientist. He’s a little eccentric and socially awkward, but hey, who isn’t?

Why do we want to meet him? Right now he’s just a young guy who wants to be liked — but what makes him think riddles are the way to do it? Who the hell likes riddles?

9. Ivy Pepper

Who's this girl? We don't know much about her, but she sure likes her plants.

Why do we want to meet her? She's just a kid now with a mean dad, but one day she'll be Poison Ivy.

10. Barbara Kean

Who’s this lady? She’s an art gallery owner and fiancée to our new best pal Jim Gordon.

Why do we want to meet her? She may be pretty and nice, but we suspect there are some dark secrets here. This is Gotham. No one’s just pretty and nice.

Goodie or baddie? Jim seems to like her, so let’s go with that.
