Parenting In The Animal World

Humans aren’t the only animals out there with flexible gender roles. These beautiful illustrations by humon demonstrate that Mother Nature isn’t black and white when it comes to gender or sex.

God damn, it makes sense. Futa must’ve been born when National Geographic Japan aired an episode about Hyenas.
      Damn you, nature! Dammmmn youuu!

Nature is supremely black and white when it comes to gender and sex. These are five outliers.  The Spotted Hyena is one of the most interesting animals on earth. My personal favorite. They’re the true masters of the African plains, contrary to popular beliefs, killing almost all their prey (and devouring it alive). The myth persists but lions scavenge off hyena kills more than the other way around. All the misconceptions stem from hyenas being gross and exhibiting a totally different demeanor at night, when they’re most fierce and dominant.  I love this species so much. They’ve mastered the randomness of evolution (randomly, of course) with cubs of the same sex genetically programmed to kill each other to ensure survival of the fittest and the development of the pseudo-penis to make rape impossible, ensuring selective breeding. (I don’t think many animal lovers realize how much rape there is out there. It’s evolutionarily significant in species like Grizzly bears, where dominant males will readily kill cubs of a female and then rape her, passing on his powerful genes. However, do to female mammals usually being weaker and lower on hierarchical scales many times a weak male can rape a female passing on rubbish DNA. Rape works for creatures that rely on brawn over brains but evolution agrees with the old adage “brains over brawn” so rape is bad for intelligent species. Surprise!) As a result the hyena has the most powerful jaws in the mammalian kingdom and their intelligence rivals ape species. They’re one of the most superior animals on Earth. Look past how gross they are, please, I beg you.
