The best way to do it is by boat tour.

7. While cruising down The Cabot Trail.

The Cabot Trail is one of the most famous scenic drives in Canada, snaking around Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island.

This picture was snapped at a point called Lakies Head. Make sure you pull over before you selfie – or risk your car becoming a scenic write-off.

If you can't get a glimpse of the reclusive snowy owl, then take a selfie while doing a wilderness trail or whitewater rafting.

Orcas can be spotted happily swimming along Canada's west coast during August, just chilling and eating hapless salmon who have swum upstream to spawn. If you're lucky, you might also spot sea lions and other sea mammals.

Churchill is on the bears' October migration route. Rather than going it alone, take a polar bear spotting tour.

14. At Dinosaur Provincial Park.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is basically a massive dinosaur graveyard. Forty dinosaur species were discovered in those hills, and a more than 500 specimens were excavated and sent to museums all around the world. There's a visitor's centre and organised digs – if you're not in to amazing views and geology.
