1. Ahmad, "Back in the Day"

Released in 1994, the song was the first single off Ahmad’s debut album, Ahmad. The song peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 19 on the R&B charts.

After the huge success of the song, Ahmad took a break from music — eventually graduating from Stanford University with a degree in Sociology.

2. Paperboy, "Ditty"

Paperboy’s ubiquitous single, "Ditty," peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993.

3. Father MC, "I'll Do 4 U"

"I'll Do 4 U" was the second single from Father MC's 1990 debut album Father's Day. The song peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Rap Singles.

The song also features a young Mary J. Blige (then unknown) providing background vocals.

4. Positive K, "I Got a Man"

Released in 1992, “I Got a Man” was the first single from Positve K’s debut album, The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills. The song peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Also, SPOILER ALERT: Positive K provides not only his vocals on the track, but the female vocals as well.

5. Sporty Thievz, "No Pigeons"

This 1999 single was a misogynistic rebuttal to TLC's hit song "No Scrubs.” It peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

6. Akinyele, "Put It in Your Mouth"

Released in 1996, this ode to fellatio became huge underground radio hit.

7. Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)"

Released in 1998, "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)" was the first single from Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz' debut album, Make It Reign. The song peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz didn’t disappear completely: The duo were also featured on fellow one-hit wonder Tatyana Ali’s “Daydreamin."

8. L.V. feat. Treach, "Throw Your Hands Up"

L.V. followed up the huge success of Coolio’s “Gangsta's Paradise” (a song he was featured on) with his 1996 solo debut single, "Throw Your Hands Up." The song peaked at No. 32 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

9. Mista Grimm, “Indo Smoke”

This Warren G.-produced track — off the Poetic Justice soundtrack — reached No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993.

10. Craig Mack, feat. The Notorious B.I.G., Rampage, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and Puff Daddy, "Flava in Ya Ear (Remix)" (1994)

Craig Mack’s 1994 debut single is an epic classic that helped launch the careers of the Notorious B.I.G. (his fellow Bad Boy label mate) and Busta Rhymes — both of whom overshadowed him on the track.

11. Canibus, "Second Round KO"

Canibus absolutely destroyed LL Cool J in this classic 1998 diss track.

While the single was both a critical and commercial success — with the song peaking at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 — Canibus was unable to duplicate the success again.

12. Real Live feat. Ghostface Killah, Lord Tariq, Killa Sin, and Cappadonna, "Real Live Shit (Remix)"

"Real Live Shit (Remix)" was the only single released off Real Live's debut (and only) album, The Turnaround: A Long Awaited Drama.

13. N2Deep, "Back to the Hotel"

The Northern California duo’s hit single peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 12 on the Billboard Rap Songs in 1992.

14. K.P. & Envyi, “Swing My Way”

The duo swung their way up to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1998.

15. Souls of Michief, "93 'til Infinity"

The title track off the Oakland group's debut album reached No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993.

16. The WhoRidas, "Shot Callin' & Big Ballin'"

The Oakland duo independently sold a whopping 15,000 copies of "Shot Callin' & Big Ballin'" out of the back of their car; they eventually signed to Delicious Vinyl and released the single nationally in 1996.

17. Luniz, "I Got 5 on It"

Released in 1995, the song peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.

18. MC Breed and DFC, "Ain't No Future in Yo Frontin'"

The first single off MC Breed and DFC’s 1991 self-titled debut album peaked at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 12 on the Hot Rap Singles.

Candyman's debut single peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990.

20. B-Rock & The Bizz, "My Baby Daddy"

Released 1997, "My Baby Daddy" reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Hot Rap Singles. But problems with their label, LaFace Records, led to B-Rock & The Bizz never releasing a follow-up single or debut album.
