Street Fighter's Ryu Dragon Punches His Way Into "Smash 4"

    I totally called it.

Yesterday morning, Nintendo dropped a treasure trove of nostalgic downloadable content on Smash 4 fans.

In addition to new characters, Nintendo released costumes for characters from Mega Man, Virtua Fighter, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Tekken.

The announcement marked the return of Roy and Lucas from Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl respectively, but WHO CARES BECAUSE RYU FROM STREET FIGHTER IS IN.

After Super Smash Brothers Brawl came out in 2007 and introduced Sonic as a third-party character, I started thinking Ryu would make a perfect addition to the franchise.

Street Fighter 2 is one of the greatest games of all time and it's only natural that the world's greatest fighting game character would stand tall next to Mario, Sonic, and others.

I was so committed to this that when Nintendo announced they would be opening voting for new downloadable characters, I wrote a BuzzFeed post about it, mostly because I wanted Ryu to be in.

I even pointed out how natural it would be for him to use the Dragon Punch as a recovery move. I see no lie.

But Nintendo took attention to detail to the next level. Ryu parrys like in Street Fighter III when he shields at the last possible moment!

This is everything I wanted and so much more.

Welcome Ryu! And thank you for proving I am a prophet.
