Five members of the North Queensland Cowboys have been charged with egging cars overnight.
Queensland police says the men, aged 18 to 25, have been charged with two counts of wilful damage and issued with notices to appear in court.
They allegedly entered a convenience store in the Townsville suburb of Currajong at around 10pm on Wednesday night to buy eggs.
Police allege the men left the shop and threw eggs at five parked cars, causing minor damage, before driving off.
An hour and a half later, police pulled over a car for a random breath test and a member of the public told them that this car was the one involved in the earlier egging. Police allegedly found eggs and egg cartons in the car.
At least one of the players involved is thought to be a member of Cowboys' NRL squad and an international star.
The defending premiers are due to play Melbourne in the first round of the NRL finals in Melbourne this weekend. It's not yet clear if the players involved will be eligible to take the field.
The five men will appear in court on October 11.
