George Galloway Has Confirmed He Is Running For Mayor Of London

The former MP for Bradford West was humiliated in the general election after failing to retain his seat. But now he's back, because, y'know, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Former MP George Galloway has announced he will be standing for London mayor next year.

I'm standing for Mayor of London 2016. If you can help in any way, write to me at galloway4london@gmail.com

Galloway, the leader of the Respect party, had been the MP for Bradford West, but suffered a humiliating loss to his Labour opponent Naz Shah in May's general election, being defeated by more than 11,000 votes.

Despite this, Galloway has challenged the result and claimed he was mounting legal action to overturn it.

During the campaign, Galloway accused Shah of lying about being forced into marriage in Pakistan, and got into a high-profile Twitter spat with a local Bradford brewery.

He made his announcement on Twitter, and has urged followers and supporters to crowdfund his campaign.

Following his election defeat, Galloway said that he was "already planning his next campaign".

Earlier this year at a meeting to support the disgraced former Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman, Galloway claimed he would "return to East London" where he had been an MP for Bethnal Green & Bow between 2005 and 2010.

Additionally in an interview given to Sky News during the election campaign, Galloway hinted that he would run for London mayor if he failed to win in Bradford West.
