A Hong Kong Actor Faced Backlash After Donning Brownface And A Sari In A "PPAP" Parody

    Derek Wong later took down the videos and apologised, stating that he is deeply sorry for upsetting the Indian community.

    On October 26, Hong Kong actor Derek Wong put up two videos in which he donned brownface, wore a sari, and used various Indian stereotypes to create a parody of "Pen Pineapple Apple Pen".

    In the video titled "PPAP Indian Aunty", Wong reenacts the viral song by using things like curry, lassi, and mangoes.

    Owing to immense backlash, the video was taken down by Wong soon after.

    However, Facebook page Oriental Sundays HK re-uploaded the video...

    ... And the backlash found new life on their page.

    Many people called out the blatant racism.

    And stated that using race as a media for comedy isn't okay.

    After taking down the videos from his page, Derek Wong issued an apology to the Indian community through a Facebook post.
