A UKIP councillor's "deeply racist comments", which saw her expelled from the party, have been broadcast in a BBC documentary:

While filing her nails, Rozanne Duncan told UKIP's local press secretary: "The only people I do have problems with are negroes.

"And I don't know why. I don't know if there's something in my psyche or whether something happened to me in a previous life, or whether something happened to me as a very, very young person and I've drawn a veil over it, because that sometimes happens, doesn't it.

"But I really do have a problem with people with negroid features, I really do."

Duncan made the comments immediately after saying: "There is absolutely no way I am a racist."

She then said she would refuse to sit next to a black person at a dinner table.

The councillor was previously the party's branch secretary in South Thanet, where Nigel Farage is seeking election as an MP.

Farage has since described her comments as "deeply racist". He told Radio 4: "Clearly she doesn't have any understanding of the deep offence she has caused by her comments, and we took the right decision."

Duncan was rapidly expelled from the party, a decision she says came as a "bombshell".

She told the BBC: "I still honestly believe what I said was never in any way racist or derogatory.

I used the word 'negroes' as you would do Asians, Chinese, Muslims, Jews. It's a description. It's not an insult.

In the same way that that you would say 'Well, what do you mean, Jewish?' They belong to a community, they've got a certain faith, they usually have noses that have a bit of a curve to them."

The BBC captured her comments as part of a documentary following UKIP activists in Kent called Meet the Ukippers.
