    A man said to be in his early thirties has died after a partial building collapse in the Grosvenor Square area, near U.S. Embassy.

    An onlooker at the scene, Bethanie Gavin, told BuzzFeed that there were many construction workers outside the area alongside a number of police cars when she walked past the area at 5.30pm. She also suggested the building that partially collapsed was 20 Grosvenor Square.

    She said: "The left (front of the building) was closed off and everyone looking onwards at it. The police were still surrounding the right section [of the building] too, which is where I was walking up."

    A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said that officers were called to a building site at 3.45pm. The Met has also warned commuters to avoid the area.

    It is believed the man who died may have been working on a building site in the area, said to be at 20 Grosvenor Square.

    Update - April 15, 4:10 p.m. (BST)

    The Metropolitan Police has released a statement announcing it is jointly investigating with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) the circumstances of the death of a man following a partial building collapse in Mayfair.

    The victim was deemed to be a 33-year-old man but officers are awaiting formal identification before publicly releasing his name.

    The Met confirmed that the injured man, 29, has been discharged from hospital after being treated for minor injuries.

    The statement also said it is believed that both men were working on the second floor development of 20 Grosvenor Square when the floor collapsed. It is believed the injured man was working in a digger, which is believed to have fallen, causing the

    Work at the site is currently suspended.
