bjl2 5 months agoI agree. Several things could be done to make it harder to obtain a weapon and ammo. Outlaw automatic and semi-automatic weapons. These are for killing people at war. They are not for hunting. No more gun shows. Only licensed dealers with a 2 week waiting and extensive background checks. Every single round should cost 10 or more bucks each and be registered with the dealer. No more ammo sold at Walmart. Stiff laws and penalties if caught.
Every child from K to 12 should have instruction on guns. This way they know what a gun can really do. It is not like the movies. They must pass a written test in gun safety to graduate.
There is nothing wrong with putting stiff limits on something that is a REAL danger to society.
Hunting to feed your family, kill dangerous animals. kill animals that in-danger your livelihood such as wolves killing livestock is fine but you do not need automatic weapons to do that.
The gun lobby has politicans in their pocket and they are afraid to make changes. This has to stop.
While I am a fan of Obama, I do not always agree with him and he needs to grow a pair and do something NOW. -

jamiel16 5 months agoGuns should be for military and police force use only. After a tragedy like this, America has seen that in many ways we have a big sense of humanity in us. We should pay attention to that humanity and do whatever it takes to make something like this *impossible* in America. All school doors should be locked and be installed with bullet proof windows. That “visitors welcome” sign from 1956 is absolutely ridiculous. I realize that there are thousands of responsible gun owners in America, but as we can see, it only takes one.

samanthas35 5 months agoI think it is crazy and shows the sad state of the world when a conversation about the obliteration of kindergarten children turns into a bunch of adults insulting each other and right fighting…I am not an advocate for or against guns and there are arguments for both sides, this is not about guns it’s about people and 20 of them were from our most innocent and pure population….if it wasn’t a gun it could of been a bomb or poison or numerous other things . There are people that kill children every day, one by one….most with their bare hands, It takes a village to raise our kids and a village to PROTECT them…we as Nation have become a generation of right fighters putting our personal opinions and egos ahead of the facts…Children are dead..Pray for them and their families, feel their hurt and use it to love your children , families, friends and neighbors more!!! Become part of the solution not part of the problem…….

Christina 5 months agoI HATE guns! What is the damn point of them? They do way more harm than good. So many deaths could be prevented. Guns get in the wrong hands. I heard somewhere that this gunman used guns registered to his mother… I wouldn’t THINK to have a gun in my house where my children could get ahold of it, regardless of age.

victorialillianl 5 months agoI feel that before you can buy a gun you should be psychologically examined. The root of alot of these mass killings is the social unawareness of problematic mental health issues that usually arise in your early twenties. Most of these gun men have given warnings and no one listens. Give them a head check before a gun permit.

prairiehunter 5 months agoWe did a while ago. There was the Dunblane school massacre in 1996 that killed sixteen children and the gunman himself. Thinking about Sandy Hook is a painful reminder of that time.

hannahc20 5 months agothe Dunblane Massacre in Scotland was (until today) the deadliest primary school attack in modern history. 18 murdered, 15 injured, and one suicide. And the Norway attacks last year, 67 deaths by gunfire in a country where not even the law enforcement carry firearms. and why don’t you take a look at the UK knife violence statistics.

coliny 5 months ago@Gary Boyer et al. Gun control is not ‘nuts’ if it would help to prevent what happened today. over 80 deaths a day from guns? I don’t know what the percentage of those is by assault weapons but stuff like assault rifles have no place in a civilized society. You cannot possibly argue that they do.
