Ed Miliband has repeatedly namechecked individuals who have inspired his policies during his Labour party conference speech.
But he mentioned one person more than any other: a software developer called Gareth. He was mentioned so often that the name started to trend on Twitter.
BuzzFeed News understands that Gareth is Gareth Edwards, a Cambridge graduate who works at developer Softwire UK.
"We were having an outdoor meeting/picnic every year and [Miliband] just turned up to that," said a colleague at the company. "I'm not sure of what was said but Ed talked to a lot of people."
There had been a lot of speculation as to whether Gareth really existed:
It's your day in the sun, Gareth.
Update: Softwire has now confirmed it's their Gareth – he's the one at the back on the left, over the shoulder.
This piece originally misidentified the Gareth who works at Softwire UK due to confusion when asking for the Gareth who works there. It turns out there are multiple Gareths at Softwire UK. We all live in a world of Gareths.
