Hollywood Remembers Joan Rivers

"There are no words," Whoopi Goldberg tweeted. "Bon Voyage Joan."

When news broke that Joan Rivers died Thursday at the age of 81, the comedy world came out en masse to mourn the trailblazer.

A legend, a friend, a mentor, an icon, and wildly funny. One of a kind. RIP #JoanRivers @joan_rivers

My friend Joan Rivers has passed away once again to quote Billy Crystal... There are no words. Bon Voyage Joan

Joan Rivers. :( If you are young and only know her from Fashion Police, watch the doc "A Piece of Work" to see what a true pioneer she was!

RIP Joan Rivers. A force of nature.

Proving just how many people her life and career had inspired, Joan was also mourned by Hollywood at large.

And in addition to being a trailblazer the great Joan always smelled good. Thanks for taking my challenge. I still owe you one. RIP x,sj

Joan Rivers has died. What a sad ending to a brilliant and tragi-comic life; one of the bravest, and funniest of all.

I told Maron I'd have a zinger when Joan died. But I didn't think she ever would. She felt eternal, and anyway, zingers are her territory.

That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it's made of polyurethane.

RIP Joan Rivers. Being publicly told that my dress is hideous will never feel quite as awesome. You will be truly missed.

There wasn't a single topic that made Joan Rivers nervous. She joked about abortion before anybody. #GutsyBroad

I love you with all my heart @Joan_Rivers my life will never be the same with out you! https://t.co/0kn2FFZDF9

Moi is deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and legend, Joan Rivers. We were always two of a kind. I will miss her.

Amy Poehler, who is not on Twitter, released a statement.

"What a full life. Every woman in comedy is indebted to her. She was there at the beginning and funny to the end. RIP Joan."

    As did Louis C.K.

"I feel very lucky that I knew Joan Rivers and I feel very sad that she's gone. She was a great comedian and a wonderful person. I never saw someone attack a stage with so much energy. She was a controlled lightning bolt. She was a prolific and unpredictable, joyful joke writer. She loved comedy. She loved the audience. She was a great actress and should have done that more. She loved living and working. She was kind. She was real. She was brave. She was funny and you just wanted to be around her. I looked up to her. I learned from her. I loved her. I liked her. And I already miss her very much. It really fucking sucks that she had to die all of a sudden."

    And David Letterman.

"Here's a woman, a real pioneer for other women looking for careers in stand-up comedy. And talk about guts — she would come out here and sit in this chair and say some things that were unbelievable, just where you would have to swallow pretty hard ... but it was hilarious ... the force of her comedy was overpowering."

But, perhaps, no one put it better than Samuel L. Jackson.

Love Her or Hate Her, we're gonna Miss JOAN RIVERS! I always Respected her go for broke humor. One of a kind.R.I.P.
