Labour Leader Ed Miliband Denies That He's Facing A Coup

"I don't accept that this matter arises," the Labour leader said.

Ed Miliband has denied claims that he's facing an imminent Labour leadership coup.

Two backbench Labour MPs are reported to have told the chairman of the parliamentary Labour party that they no longer want Miliband as Labour leader.

But Miliband told the BBC: "We remain focused on this country and how we can make this country work again. I don't accept that this matter [concern over his leadership] arises."

Miliband has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks. Yesterday, he was the subject of an article criticising his leadership in the New Statesman, which had previously backed him. Additionally, Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont resigned recently due to "dinosaurs" in the UK party who "failed to see Scotland had changed forever" following the referendum.

Potential candidates to replace Miliband include shadow health secretary Andy Burnham and shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper.

Here are some of the rumours flying around Westminster.

Miliband says talk of unrest in Labour ranks is "nonsense". So why was I told by a member only a few days ago that they can't win with him?

Mood among Labour MPs may be jittery, but forcing change of leader near impossible under rules: Maybe rebels hope Miliband will quit instead

Labour source: "I think the leadership challenge stuff is b**** mainly because there's not a candidate who would be willing to do it"

Damian McBride: “The mood is pretty black in Labour … these are wild times.” #bbcdp
