This Is What Nigel Farage Means By A "Proper F*cking Lunch"

    Cheers!

A former adviser to Nigel Farage has revealed how the UKIP leader made sure to enjoy a "PFL" – a "proper fucking lunch" – every week.

Raheem Kassam, Farage's former election strategist, said a "PFL" involved two bottles of wine per person.

He told BBC2's Newsnight on Wednesday that the acronym was a "Farage-ism" and the lunches happened "maybe once a week". Asked whether they would involve just him and Farage and four bottles of wine, he said: "No, no, no, no – four of us and eight."

But many viewers were more shocked by presenter Emily Maitlis dropping the F-bomb on live television.

Kassam, who resigned days after the election, said he first bonded with Farage over a number of "PFLs".

In an interview with The Guardian, he described a typical day of campaigning in South Thanet – the seat Farage failed to win.

Farage and his team would do "some walkabouts" before they "hit a pub for lunch" and knocked on more doors. "Then another pint around 5 o'clock, go out and do more evening canvassing," he said. "Then around 9, we'd go to The Smugglers [pub] for dinner or we'd go to La Magnolia [an Italian] and have a nice civilised meal."
