9月23日、ニューヨークで開催された国連気候行動サミットにグレタ・トゥーンベリ（16）が登壇しました。
各国首脳らに気候変動への緊急対策を求めた力強いスピーチが話題になっています。
"How dare you!"（よくもそんなことを！）という表現が繰り返し用いられたこのスピーチを、英語と日本語で見てみましょう。
重要表現
How dare you!：よくもそんなことを！
How dare 〜 で、よく〜できるね、といった意味になります。
スピーチ内の "How dare you continue to look away, " だと「よく目を背け続けられますね」。口調が強ければ「よくも〜してくれたな！」くらいのニュアンスになります。
empty words：空っぽなことば、実体のないことば、うわべだけの言葉
空っぽ、というのはつまり「具体性を欠いていること」。政治家たちの発言がうわべでしかないこと、大人たちを痛烈に批判する表現です。
「口先だけのあなたにはうんざり！」と言いたい時は "I am so sick of your empty words!"。
中身がないことを批判するとき、他の組み合わせでも "empty" が使われます。例えば "empty head（空っぽの頭）"。考えのない（人）、というような形容詞だと "empty-headed" になります。「空約束」は "empty promise(s)"。
nowhere in sight：先が見えない、目処が立っていない
直訳すると「視界のどこにも入っていない」という意味です。
「結末が見えない」、「計画の見通しが立たない」という時以外に、物理的に見えない時にも使います。
（例）He was nowhere in sight. = 彼の姿はどこにも見えなかった。
business as usual：通常通りの、変わりばえのない
店の営業時間に関して「通常営業」という意味で使われることが多いです。入り口にサインがあったら「通常通り営業しています」ということ。
しかし、スピーチ内では皮肉を込めて "business-as-usual solusions"、「なんら変わりばえのしない解決策」と用いられています。
You are failing us.：あなたたちは私たちを失望させている、裏切っている
動詞 "fail" の意味は「失敗する」。"fail someone (人)" だと「人に期待されていたことをしない」という意味の表現になります。
スピーチ対訳
This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope? How dare you!
