At CPAC, Sarah Palin Shows She’s Still Got It

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — They like her, they still really like her. Sarah Palin had the CPAC crowd on its feet Saturday afternoon with a speech full of folksisms, one-liners about President Barack Obama, attacks on Karl Rove, and a couple wildly popular sips from a Big Gulp stashed in the podium before she came on stage.
“Bloomberg’s not around,” Palin joked as the crowd went wild, “our Big Gulps are safe.”
For members of a conservative movement shuffling from lecture to lecture about what they’re doing wrong at this year’s CPAC, Palin’s speech to the faithful was clearly refreshing. She laid the blame for the Republican Party’s problems at the feet of men like Karl Rove, who she referred to as “the Architects.”
“They talk about ‘rebranding the GOP’ instead of restoring the trust of the American people,” she said. “We can’t just ignore, though, that we just lost a big election. Yeah. Came in second. Out of two.”
“Second position on a dog sled team is where the view never changes and the view ain’t pretty,” she said.
Palin was introduced by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), a white-hot member of the conservative movement these days. He’s scheduled to give the keynote CPAC address Saturday afternoon. Bringing Palin to the stage, he said he wouldn’t be in the the Senate unless Palin had backed his insurgent campaign.
Once Palin appeared, it didn’t take long for her to bring the crowd to its feet by digging into her old playbook of winks and hints about a dark history for the president.
“More background checks? Dandy idea Mr. President,” Palin said. “Should’ve started with yours.”

williaml15 2 months agoGovernor Palin a rare leader indeed speaking truth to a generation who don’t want it, speaking wisdom to a people who believe stupidity is wisdom and wisdom stupidity, mocking the maiden with the medicine that they so desperately need but believe the cure she carries is a poisonous curse. The great shame of these folk is they hate the beautiful messenger, and they hate the message because they have believed a lie.

Realchemist 2 months agoI must have starting reading buzzfeed at a good time. It appears that buzzfeed is attempting more equal news coverage. Judging by the readers comments, they are only used to liberal views. Sara using a big gulp as a prop is badass. Fuck the US nanny state.

Benjamin Sapiens a month agoYeah, they’ve apparently decided to start balancing out their liberal slant by including a bit of bullshit rightwing douchebaggery at regular intervals.

JohnFrank 2 months agoGood article. Thank you Evan McMorris-Santoro for honest reporting. What is interesting to read is the war against women that is being waged by many of the commentators on this site. An “idiot?” Someone whose “15 minutes is up?” Wrong. The speech that Sarah Louise Heath Palin gave at CPAC2013 was delivered by an intelligent and thoughtful person. People could learn quite a few things after listening to her speech: CPAC 2013 - Former Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkRw4EOwY2g&feature=youtu.be She gave a superb speech in which she legitimately took to task both President Obama, and the Republican establishment while outlining a poignant and compelling vision for the future. Oh yes, the “big gulp” was a deliberate parody on the arbitrary and capricious law that was pushed by Mayor Bloomberg and that was deliberately struck down by the Court, allowing the big chains (including 7-11) to continue to sell big drinks like the “Big Gulp,” while banning the big drinks in mom and pop restaurants, along with promoting liberty and individual responsibility. But, I guess that would be tough for some folks to understand. -

Tron 2 months agoIt’s hilarious that the GOP keeps trotting out this moron to rile-up their base. Yes, GOP, an incomprehensible pandering grifter is EXACTLY what you need to broaden your appeal and gain new voters. It is odd to see Buzzfeed falling for her tired old routine however. Surely there aren’t that many idiots working for this website?

cadeadamsa 2 months agoUSA having the highest rate of obesity in the world…35.7% of American adults as obese, and 17% of American children. Obesity is cited as a contributing factor to approximately 100,000–400,000 deaths in the United States per year…costing society an estimated $117 billion in direct (preventive, diagnostic, and treatment services related to weight) and indirect (absenteeism, loss of future earnings due to premature death) costs. That a grown woman and mother of 4 kids in the year 2013, will go on stage to promote OBESITY is a moral disgrace…is not about politic (she can jab the president as often as she want) but this obesity promo is distasteful primitive and very naïve… i wonder if Palin/GOP/CPAC believes that cigarette smoking causes cancer

keirs 2 months agoAll of the response to Sarah Palin are at the least laughable. She no longer is on Fox for if you look at the network although it is the most politically honest it is nonetheless becoming more establishment and not so much conservative. She is proving at CPAC that she still has power in the conservative movement, and that it is the establishment Republicans that do not fear her - a mistake on their part. She still has the power to get conservatives elected and has shown that in this most recent cycle.. She will again show it when we get gain in the elections of 2014.. And for those of you who are critical of conservatives, maybe it’s because you were never meant to be anything but followers who will listen blindly to anyone who promotes liberal views.. So pathetic you all are
