Michelle Rodriguez has apologized for saying it was "stupid" that minorities "keep stealing all the white people's superheroes."
The actress made the comments after she was asked by TMZ about rumors she was being considered to play the Green Lantern.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Yeah, I think is so stupid for like ... because of this whole like minorities in Hollywood thing….But it's so stupid. Like, stop stealing, you know, all the white people's superheroes. Like, make up your own. Know what I'm saying, like what's up with that?
Her comments drew outrage on social media.
Rodriguez then posted a video to Facebook, saying she "stuck her foot in her mouth once again."
She said she was sorry if people were offended by her comments, and that she thinks they were taken out of context.
The point she was trying to make, she said, was that she thinks there are "cultures in Hollywood that are not white that can come up with their own mythology."
Instead of trying to turn a girl character into a guy or instead of trying to turn a white character into a black character or Latin character I think that people should stop being lazy, and you know, that people should actually make an effort in Hollywood to develop their own mythology.
