It was pretty exciting to wake up to snow in Cairo, a city where sweltering sun and dust storms are more the norm.
Photos began to pour in from across Egypt, as the Arabic word for snow - #ثلج - began to trend on Twitter.
Of course, some people were worried about the cold.
Others were frustrated with the flooding that followed.
And some wondered whether Egypt's much-lauded General Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi was responsible for the snow.
Or whether it was part of Sisi's alleged dreams of the future.
But mostly people were just really excited about the snow!
One breath taking photo of St. Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai, however, turned out to be old.
But in the end, Egypt was happy to again be making history.
Updated Saturday, 8am GMT : There are disagreements over when it last snowed in Cairo.
Egypt's Meteorological Authority, which told Buzzfeed on Friday that it was "correct that there has not been snow in Cairo in 112 years," on Saturday said they were still checking figures.
"It has been very many years, we belive over 100 years but we are still checking the figures," one official told Buzzfeed by phone.
The figure of 112 years was reported widely by local Egyptian media. On Twitter, Amr El Gabry said he was the original source for what he called a "guestimate" of 112 years. He later revised that figure to 122 years, citing an article.
