On the 12th day of his trial, Gilberto Valle — the former NYPD officer known as "Cannibal Cop" — was found guilty of kidnapping conspiracy and illegally gaining access to a law enforcement database. He was using police resources while planning to rape, murder and eat scores of women.
The kidnapping count carries a potential maximum sentence of life in prison.
Valle's defense team argued that his gruesome plans were fantasy and that he shouldn't be convicted "because of ugly thoughts." But prosecutors said "he would have carried out a plan if he thought he could get away with it."
