“August 23, 1989| Arts and entertainment reports from The Los Angeles Times —- Comedian George Carlin has canceled his coming show at Caesars Palace Circus Maximus in sympathy for the Las Vegas musicians’ strike. “It would create a very funny feeling in me,” to cross the picket line, Carlin said. “My sympathies are clearly with the musicians,” said Carlin of the members of the Musicians Local 369 who have been on strike 12 weeks. “I have to live with myself and I have to live and work with union people for the rest of my career and my life,” Carlin said. ”
UPDATE—— Nov, 1989 … Musicians Local 369 has been on strike since summer against Bally’s and four other resorts, singer Barbara Mandrell and comedian George Carlin, both of whom had previously joined Sinatra in honoring the picket line, have announced that they will perform, this weekend at Bally’s and Caesars Palace. The union’s leader, Mark Tully Massagli, said he was disappointed but “it doesn’t mean this thing is over.” George Carlin did the comedy of preaching one thing, and doing the opposite (for lots of money).
