Two Injured After Hotel Catches Fire On The Las Vegas Strip

At least two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at the pool of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

A fire broke out Saturday at the Cosmopolitan hotel on the famed Las Vegas strip, sending a large plume of black smoke across the gambling center.

The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas is on fire.

The fire broke out in an outdoor area of he 14th floor of the hotel, near the pool, Clark County Fire Department Assistant Chief Sandra Baker told BuzzFeed News.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, and the hotel was evacuated because of the large amount of smoke, fire officials told BuzzFeed News.

The Clark County Fire Department responded to the hotel after 12:30 p.m., describing the fire as a 2-alarm blaze. Palm trees and pool cabanas were damaged in the fire, Baker said. The building suffered minimal damage.

Visitors to the Las Vegas Strip captured photos of the smoke rising over nearby hotels. Fire officials said artificial palm trees and foliage in the pool area helped the flames spread quickly.

One Twitter user staying in the hotel shot video of the flames from his window, before writing that guests were evacuated.

The flames appeared to be out before 1 p.m. Investigators are reviewing surveillance videos and interviewing guests to determine the cause of the fire, Baker said.
