This Girl Accidentally Came Out To Her Family "In The Worst Way Possible"

Katie, 16, made the revelation during a sarcastic comeback to her grandmother.

On 19 September she shared this photo on her Tumblr.

It was my grandmother's birthday party and I spent all day with my family. I hadn't talked to her very much prior to coming out, mostly I just hung out with my cousins, but I had already known that she was homophobic. So we were all sitting around having cake when we started talking about the presidential elections, and my grandmother told us all about how she was going to vote for Donald Trump, and my cousin brought up a lot of counter-arguments (including how racist he is, how he's not actually a good businessman, etc.) and eventually mentioned how he's anti-LGBT, to which my grandma responded that all gays are going to hell anyway.

Katie followed up the post, stating that despite her grandparent's initial animosity, she is supported by her family.

“For now it still feels a little surreal, I guess,” she said. “There haven’t really been any big repercussions on my end. I guess we’ll just have to wait until Christmas."
