Yesterday Facebook announced that 1.1 billion people use the site every month. But where do others stand? The results are surprising.
For all of Instagram’s popularity, Snapchat users upload 110 million more photos per day. Yahoo Mail is more popular than Twitter. And even MySpace is as popular as Spotify.
To get sense of what the internet actually looks like in 2013, we’ve compiled a list of some of the biggest social media sites and apps. These are official numbers, which means some may be inflated a bit — Google+ counts users in a very generous way, for example. But overall they’re a pretty good indication of just how people spend time on the internet now.
3. Facebook - 1.1 Billion
4. YouTube - 1 Billion
5. QQ - 700 Million
7. Google+ - 343 Million
11. Skype - 280 Million
13. WhatsApp - 200+ Million
14. Twitter - 200 Million
18. Tumblr - 170 Million
19. LinkedIn - 160 Million
22. Instagram - 100 Million
23. Flickr - 87 Million
24. Yelp - 84 Million
30. Spotify - 24 Million
Most of these figures were compiled using Craig Smith’s extremely comprehensive social network/app user list over at ExpandedRamblings.
- White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer repeated claims that the inauguration was the most watched ever. But the numbers (still) don't make sense.
- President Donald Trump signed an executive order that bans foreign organizations that receive US funding from providing abortions.
- Democratic lawmakers say Trump's new hotel in Washington, DC, has lost over $1 million and violates its lease with the government.
- You could be consuming fake news on Snapchat Discover. The app is now making publishers fact-check their content 👻
