The father of Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz says that the "liberal media" in America reminds him of the "ministry of misinformation" in communist countries. Rafael Cruz was speaking on Glenn Beck's radio program Friday, where he also said the media had an "evil agenda....an agenda for destroying what this country is all about."
"In your previous segment you were talking about imagining America," Cruz said. "I'll tell you what, it almost seemed like I was listening to what was happening in Cuba during Castro. The very same thing, the ministry of misinformation that you have in all the communist countries. Well did you know, Glenn, we have a ministry of misinformation in this country? It's called the liberal media, and they just tell us what they want us to hear. They are rewriting history."
Rafael Cruz immigrated to the United States from Cuba after being dissatisfied with Castro's regime. The elder Cruz had originally been a supporter of Castro and was thrown into prison and beaten for supporting the overthrow of dictator Fulgencio Batista, according to a 2006 profile of his son by the Austin American-Statesman.
"They have an agenda," Cruz continued. "And, unfortunately, the agenda is an evil agenda. It's an agenda for destroying what this country is all about."
