Charleston Shooting Suspect's Sister Appears To Be Asking For Donations For Her "Dream Honeymoon"

A GoFundMe page created by Amber Roof, Dylann Roof's sister, is asking for $5,000 in donations to cover costs of her cancelled wedding and for her "dream honeymoon."

Amber Roof, the sister of Charleston shooting suspect Dylan Roof, appears to be asking for donations to fund her "dream honeymoon" with her fiancé Michael Tyo.

The GoFundMe campaign by Amber Roof was deleted Thursday afternoon.

A GoFundMe page created by Amber Roof on June 27, asks friends and families for money "to cover lost wedding costs, to pay bills, and to send us on our dream honeymoon."

Amber Roof, who lives in Florence, S.C., was forced to cancel her June 21 wedding with Michael Tyo, a U.S. Army Reserve recruiter, when her brother, Dylann Roof, allegedly shot and killed nine people at a historic black church in Charleston three days earlier.

In an appeal on the GoFundMe page, Amber Roof said they had to "abruptly cancel their wedding due to the tragedy that occurred in Charleston."

She wrote that "it was going to be the PERFECT day" after months of planning details and finding the perfect venue, but it was "tainted by the actions of one man."

She further wrote:

"Our wedding day was suppose to be the most important and special day of our lives. It was suppose to start our lives together with our new family. Our day was the exact opposite. Our wedding day was full of sorrow, pain, and shame, tainted by the actions of one man.

The Charleston Massacre took place and our lives were forever changed."

She also blamed the media for publishing their wedding information and destroying their dream day.

Dylann Roof was arrested three miles past the street where Tyo lived, the Washington Post reported.

Amber Roof was one of the first people to notify law enforcement officials after seeing the surveillance photo of her brother.

"We know money cannot replace the wedding we lost and our perfect day, however it will help us to create new memories and a new start with our new family," Amber Roof wrote on the GoFundMe page.

While they cancelled their wedding "to mourn the lives of those lost," Amber Roof wrote that they decided to start a GoFundMe account to "create new memories and a new start with our new family."

The account has raised $1,510 as of Thursday with some of the 31 donors contributing as much as $200.

While the money will be used to cover their wedding costs and fund their honeymoon, Amber Roof stated that 10% of funds raised will be donated to the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church where the shooting took place.

A donor, who contributed $10, wrote, "I too have a selfish brother that has ruined a few of my special days. A situation like this could have easily been me since my brother has threatened to kill my father on several occasions."

Friends who donated money also left supportive comments. "Thank you for your honesty and desire to do the right thing, particularly at such a personal cost," said one donor who gave $50. Another who gave $200 wrote, "You are such an amazing woman & deserve all the best things in life."

Amber Roof's sorority sister donated $75, writing, "Amber, I know we have lost touched after college but you will always be my sister in Chi Omega. I hope this small gesture helps."

An update on the page on Wednesday says, "We are so grateful for all of your contributions. We love you all so much. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of our dream honeymoon!"

Amber Roof and Michael Tyo did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed News' request for comment.
