Allen West’s Opponent Accuses Him Of Torture In TV Ad

Democrat Patrick Murphy runs an ad about West’s controversial handling of an Iraqi prisoner.

Congressman Allen West’s Democratic opponent Patrick Murphy has hit back hard after last week’s West ad that showed his mugshot. Murphy’s ad takes the Call of Duty-esque premise of West’s and turns it on its head: he puts a dent in West’s war hero reputation by basing the ad around an incident in which West, a lieutenant colonel in Iraq, fired a gun next to an Iraqi prisoner’s head and faced possible court martial.

The Murray campaign told TPM that it had spent $175,000 on airing the ad.
