Former AC/DC Drummer 8 Months House Arrest For Drugs Possession, Making Death Threats

Phil Rudd pleaded guilty to the charges in New Zealand in April.

Former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was sentenced on July 9 to eight months of house arrest and round-the-clock monitoring after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill someone and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, TV New Zealand reported. The rocker must also go to rehab and will be thrown in jail if there are any traces of drugs or alcohol in his system.

Phil Rudd, the former drummer for AC/DC, pleaded guilty in New Zealand Monday to possession of methamphetamine and marijuana and threatening to kill someone.

The 60-year-old drummer was initially charged with plotting to arrange the murder of two men following a raid on his home in November, but the charge was later dropped.

On Monday in Tauranga District Court, he pleaded guilty to a second charge of threatening to kill and to possession of 130 grams of cannabis and 0.7 grams of methamphetamine, according to the New Zealand Herald.

Police said Rudd was charged with threatening to kill over an incident that happened on Sept. 26 in which the rockstar threatened to kill a man he knew and the man's daughter, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Craig Tuck, the lawyer who represented Rudd in court on Monday, said his client would be seeking discharge without conviction, New Zealand's Stuff reported.

Rudd was remanded on bail for sentencing on June 26. He has been out on bail since the charges were made in November, spending the summer in his guarded waterfront home in Tauranga.

After his home was raided Nov. 6, Rudd was charged with attempting to procure murder, threatening to kill, and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. The first charge was dropped the following day. Tuck said Monday that the charge had been "incredibly damaging" to his client's career.

Rudd played with AC/DC from 1974 to 1983, and then again from 1994. In November, AC/DC asked former drummer Chris Slade to perform with them on their Rock or Bust tour, but Rudd has said he wants his spot back in the band.

"I'm going back to work with AC/DC, and I don't care who likes it and who doesn't," he told Television New Zealand in December. "I want my job back, I want my reputation back, and I'm gonna get it back."
