LGBT activists in Nairobi, Kenya, rallied Monday in front of the diplomatic mission of neighboring Uganda to protest the "Anti-Homosexuality Bill" now pending before the country's president. The bill, which would impose up to a life-time prison sentence for homosexual relationships and outlaw LGBT rights organizations, was passed by the parliament on December 20. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who has announced his opposition to the bill but not yet formally rejected it, is currently debating how to handle the issue with members of his political party during a week-long political retreat. He is awaiting the report of a commission — made up of members of the party with "medical backgrounds," according to local media reports — on whether homosexuality is an in-born trait. He has reportedly said he will consider signing the bill if he gets "confirmation from scientists that this condition is not genetic."
