deaddrift a year agoSo, I can’t let this STUPID fucking LIE about Republicans being responsible for the passage of the 1964 CRA stand. I see it all over the internet and many people apparently believe it. For the record: The CRA was proposed by one Democratic president, passed by a Democratic Senate and House, and signed into law by another Democratic president. The Democrats who opposed the bill were Southerners… so were the Republicans who opposed it. The Democrats who supported the bill were from states other than the South, as were the Republicans who supported it. After the liberal Democrats and liberal Republicans passed the historic civil rights legislation that the Democrats had created, the racist South became Republican, which it remains to this day. A lie of omission is still a lie. And how telling is it that the Republicans’ sole claim to civil rights legitimacy is not only a shameful lie, but nearly fifty years old to boot? /rant over

Nice attempt to cheapen or dismiss these images, JP. Perhaps your next post will “imply” that Obama might be a Kenyan socialist and therefore can’t be trusted? You’re not saying anything outright of course - just presenting us with images and letting us make our own conclusions, right?
And to the person who said “southern Democrats were against the Civil Rights Act” - yes, and they switched parties rather than admit the rights of minorities were more important than the arbitrary whims of bigots. And these people are now republicans. -

Holy crap - BuzzFeed deleted my post completely debunking photo #3. Here it is again. #3 is so full of lies and misinformation it makes me sick.
The KKK was started by and full of Democrats and had a mission of murdering Black people and Republicans
And the Civil Rights Act was fought tooth and nail by Democrats, and it was Republicans that unanimously passed it.
And when it comes to the 15th amendment, ZERO Democrats supported giving Black people the right to vote.
Women’s suffrage was filibustered by Democrats and they tried to stop it from going through.
AND Abe Lincoln was a Republican. These are blatant lies that all you people are hitting “WIN” for. God damn this country is fucked. -
