I see it all over the internet and many people apparently believe it. For the record: The CRA was proposed by one Democratic president, passed by a Democratic Senate and House, and signed into law by another Democratic president. The Democrats who opposed the bill were Southerners… so were the Republicans who opposed it. The Democrats who supported the bill were from states other than the South, as were the Republicans who supported it. After the liberal Democrats and liberal Republicans passed the historic civil rights legislation that the Democrats had created, the racist South became Republican, which it remains to this day.  A lie of omission is still a lie. And how telling is it that the Republicans' sole claim to civil rights legitimacy is not only a shameful lie, but nearly fifty years old to boot? /rant over

Women's suffrage was filibustered by Democrats and they tried to stop it from going through.
