People Are Mad About Trevor Noah's Old Tweets About Women And Jews

And the backlash begins... UPDATE: Comedy Central is sticking by the new Daily Show host, who also tweeted a response to his critics.

On Monday, Comedy Central confirmed Trevor Noah will succeed Jon Stewart as The Daily Show host.

And Twitter was all..."WHO?!?"

Who the heck is Trevor Noah? In any case good luck to him. #TheDailyShow

*Googles: 'Who the hell is Trevor Noah?' ...* http://t.co/dDvybMM9MV

Who and the heck is @Trevornoah ? @TheDailyShow

But after some digging, Twitter users grew more acquainted with Noah...and found some of his old tweets about Israel and Jews.

Sad that some1 as ignorant as @TrevorNoah will host @TheDailyShow w/ comments like these. #Israel @StandWithUs

New Daily Show Host Trevor Noah Is Callous Jew-Basher on Twitter http://t.co/6IINNvVI7H #RFRA The Leftist Jew Bashers

.WTF DID YOU SAY @Trevornoah? GOT ANYTHING ELSE SMART TO SAY ABOUT JEWS LITTLE #AntiSemite ?

The guy seems to have a problem with Jews.... What's that called again? #DailyShow @Trevornoah

And some other tweets about women...

So I must make my woman fear my penis? RT @UberFacts: The more you fear something, the bigger it appears.

A hot white woman with ass is like a unicorn. Even if you do see one, you'll probably never get to ride it.

And fat women.

"Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I'm sexy!" - fat chicks everywhere.

So she gets fat? RT @missdanibagel: When a woman is loved correctly, she becomes 10 times the woman she was before

As his old tweets made the rounds, some were no longer impressed with Stewart's replacement.

Jews, "untermenschen", "fat chicks" & "girls with big asses" - subjects of @Trevornoah's low-brow humour. Jon Stewart's replacement, folks!

People immediately started tweeting at Comedy Central about their new hire.

Hey @ComedyCentral your new hire @Trevornoah = racist Jew hater

Even Roseanne chimed in.

@Trevornoah U should cease sexist & anti semitic 'humor' about jewish women & Israel. #comedyCentral

Some even said they wouldn't be watching.

.@TheDailyShow seriously not cool with @Trevornoah's anti-Semitic "jokes". Won't be watching.

Settles it. Won't be watching. RT @Trevornoah "Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think I'm sexy!" - fat chicks everywhere.

Update — Noah tweeted this Tuesday morning, presumably in response to the backlash, but deleted it around 30 minutes later.

On Tuesday afternoon, Comedy Central released the following statement to BuzzFeed News: "Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included. To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central."

About two hours after Comedy Central released its statement, Noah tweeted the following:

To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.
