Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil has a novel and squirm-inducing diagnosis for an epidemic in rural Egypt. The following are quotes from an IB Times article detailing the rather awkward announcement.
Well, if that is what happens, it is actually ok to say it, if it happens to suit the topic of the conference (or else leave it for some other moment). The problem is that part of the responsibility falls on the shoulder of the state he represents as a minister; the same state which should spread the news about disease prevention in those rural areas(and possibly providing clean water).
Is he blaming women or his own lack of capability as a PM of providing water in his own country’s rural area?
I’ve been in rural Egypt and it more than a lack of clean water, it’s the lack of understanding about how disease is spread. We had several nurses with us at the time to try to teach them how to clean themselves and their children and not to bathe or wash clothes in the same place the animals bathe. They were great people and need someone working with the villages to educate them.
