Solus 4 months agoI own a gun and I agree with Obama. Lots of people do, it shouldn’t come as a shock. It’s not going to fall under the new restrictions but if they wanted me to turn in my M1 Garand I would. I have no illusions about it’s utility in self defense outside an extremely unlikely set of scenarios. Most people are killed by people they know. Having a gun isn’t going to help if the other person gets the drop on you. You can’t distrust everyone and have your hand on your gun at all times. Having a bunch of guns didn’t help Keith Ratliff, Nancy Lanza, or Meleanie Hain. Having armed people nearby didn’t help Gabrielle Giffords and nearly resulted in more bloodshed. It should be obvious to anyone that the biggest utility of a firearm is for offensive use not defensive use. Which makes me worry about the nuts stockpiling guns.

Why does everyone talk about “hunting and sporting”? Where are either of those mentioned in the Constitution or Bill of Rights? Oh yea, they’re not. The whole point of the second amendment to the Constitution is to arm the citizens from a tyrannical government. You know who else surrounded himself with children while implementing a gun ban “for the safety of the children”? Adolf Hitler. That worked out pretty well for the Germans, didn’t it? No? Oh.
