Google has some new phones for you.
At a press event in San Francisco on Tuesday, Google unveiled the company's latest flagship Nexus phones — the 5X and the 6P.
The 5X, pictured above, is the more basic of the two phones announced today. It's the successor to the Nexus 5 — which was released two years ago — and retains a smaller form factor with its 5.2" screen. The 5X boasts a new, 12 megapixel camera, and comes pre-loaded with Marshmallow, Android's latest operating system. Its most glaring downside is the lack of a large memory option; there are only the 16GB and 32GB models, and neither will come with MicroSD slots to expand that hard drive space. Instead, you'll have to get acquainted with Google's many cloud services. You can, however, unlock it with your fingerprint.
Then there's the Nexus 6P.
It comes with a lot of new hardware features, including the same 12 megapixel camera that's in the 5X, a fingerprint sensor on its back, and the first all-(very fancy)-metal body on a Nexus. It comes in 32, 64 and 128 GB models.

Its camera comes with a smart burst feature — allowing it to make 30 frames-per-second GIFs on the run.
The 6P also marks the first time Huawei has been tapped to produce a Nexus device — and although it's released several models in the United States before, this is the Chinese company's first real high profile release.
Both phones are going to charge using USB-C cables.
And it's seriously fast. Google claims that with just ten minutes of charging, the 5X gets four hours of use, and the 6P ekes out a mind-boggling seven hours.
The battery life on both will be extended by Google's new operating system feature — Doze — which is designed to bring intelligence to the power usage used by Android phones. It puts the phone to sleep when it's not in use, and conserves battery for the apps it uses the most.
Basically, these phones need to be charged a lot less.
And both will run the latest version of Android.
The Nexus 5X and 6P will be the first two phones to be released with Marshmallow installed, the most exciting feature of which is "Now on Tap." The extension of Google's powerful Now software, the feature seeks to bring context and machine learning into the smartphone, making the features of Now available across apps. From Google's demonstrations of the software, tapping and holding the home button brings up cards of information based on whatever is being displayed on screen. Essentially, it analyzes what you're looking at and figures out what the relevant Google Now cards about that information might be. It's impressive.

The Nexus 5X and 6P are both available for preorder today.
The 5X starts at $429 for the 32GB version, and the 6P starts at $549 for 64GB, and the 128GB version will cost $649. These are the unlocked device prices, without contracts, and that's just for the base models. They're on the Google Store. Your carrier may offer a subsidized rate. Google also debuted a new insurance plan, called Nexus Protect; it's $69 for the 5X and $89 for 6P, and both plans protect the phones from accidental damage and mechanical failure for two years.
