Hooray For Washington DC!
After six years of deadlock, the White House and Congressional leaders look like they may be able to compromise on something. Acting like grownups, getting things done — as long as you’re down with legalizing undocumented immigrants.
1. We can get along!
A bipartisan group of senators announced this week that they have reached agreement on the principles of sweeping legislation to rewrite the nation’s immigration laws.
2. Immigration reform.
The deal covers border security, guest workers and employer verification, as well as a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants already in this country.
3. The President agrees.
But most sensationally, the White House, Democratic and Republican lawmakers are seeming to agree on a key issue that has needed mending for decades.

Benjamin Sapiens 4 months agoSo Republicans are finally going to stop holding our country hostage and letting it slowly bleed out to satisfy a petty partisan grudge? Good for them. And all it took was four years of congressional gridlock, and downgrading of our credit rating, a shellacking in November’s elections and an approval rating that literally makes Congress less popular than cockroaches.

albertay 4 months agoAre they on the verge of passing comprehensive immigration legislation or are they on the verge of having the debate? I see this dragging on as some will dig in on semantics, i.e., amnesty vs earned pathway, the parameters of “earned”. There also will probably be anchored divisions on parceling legislation in parts rather than comprehensive. The Tea Party folk are still recalcitrant.
