Austin Found, you are the sick one. They did not bring their deceased child home ''in a jar''. What is wrong with presenting a sibling to his brothers and sisters, even if he has passed away? At least, that way, his siblings learn that there is a real reason why their parents are grieving. Just because YOU might not think to do that doesn't mean that parents who DO are sick. Why the intolerance? They were hurting no one in doing so. We have funerals for young infants. They are people just like anyone else. They deserve to be thought of.

I was called weird in public school and as well as when I was home schooled. and still am called it now… i'm a hundred and four.  you can't keep your kids from everything bad in the world, or should I say, what you consider to be.

we all find that out and accept it at different times.

Oh, so a guy who actively dislikes our public education system wants to hold a position of power over it. That bodes well.

Public schools are good for socializing kids and teaching diversity. Unfortunately, they're not good at producing intelligent adults most of the time.

I decided to homeschool both of my kids because I wanted them to learn more than the watered down, “Disney” version of history that is taught in public school. I wanted them to LEARN and LOVE science, not just learn to memorize facts from dry textbooks. I wanted them to learn that the word “peer” doesn't just mean people who are within 3 years of their age range, race, gender, etc. I wanted them to keep that love of learning that we humans are born with. I cringe when I see someone like Santorum endorsing homeschooling, knowing that it just continues to foster the idea that all homeschoolers are Christians wanting to shelter their kids & brainwash them with their own agendas. :/

I don't want my kids in public school - not because of “weird diversity” but because it sucks. Public school is a shit hole and the more money we throw at it the worse it gets. I went to a private middle school and a public high school. I read books in 7th grade that I read again in my 12th grade honors classes. The government likes raising a bunch of idiots, it's where the best votes come from.

This is exactly why so many conservatives now claim to be “independents” — they're ashamed of the GOP's wingnut extremist crazypantsers.

It's funny, my dad, my uncle and I were discussing this just the other day, about how sticking with your own niche groups narrows horizons and breeds ignorance and how that in turn encourages hatred of people who are different from those you know, purely because you don't know them. Remind me why this guy is running for president?

“Weird socialization” also known as “ACTUAL socialization.”

Well that's certainly the first time I've ever heard a homeschooled kid described as normally socialized.

Rick Santorum is a complete disaster. Also a complete disaster, the Dept of Education. We don't teach our children how to learn, we push them through a system that cares more about kids passing tests than it does about teaching. Religious freedom is a liberty that protects you, me, and every American. Even those who home school. If parents want to instruct their children, and the law let's them, and the Bill of Rights protects them, then no one has a right to say anything to those that home school. Since education isn't a right, and never was, home school was the only way to learn for many years in the US. Rick Santorum is using that to get votes from evangelicals. I don't believe he is as concerned with children's education as he is with how much money education costs the government. He's a capitalist first, and everything else is secondary.

By “weird socialization” I think he means like on Valentines day… kids have to give every kid in class a card. That IS pretty weird.

Boy, if he thinks interacting with other diverse groups of children who might not have been raised the same as you is “weird socialization,” I cannot WAIT to see him interacting with the leaders of foreign countries! (Jesus hopscotching Christ, GOP, how can you even consider this ass? *sigh*)

I do not think those words mean what he thinks they mean.
