Obama Appeared At 1996 Event Hosted By Socialist Group
It’s a reminder that the President presented himself as much more progressive during his time in Chicago. In this little-seen advertisement that ran in the Hyde Park Herald in 1996, Obama was listed on a panel sponsored by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), University of Chicago Democrats, and University of Chicago DSA. He also supported gay marriage back then.

BigPicture 11 months agoKim Glidden, keep spinning your “republicans hate the poor mantra”. Meanwhile you feed a cancer that destroys the very poor you claim to have so much passion for. Your socialist policies have failed everywhere they’ve been tried. It’s pure capatalism that made this a country where blacks in the 1950’s were advancing at a pace faster than whites.
And then people like you happened. And today the intercity is in worse shape than ever. Black women become single mothers at rates that dwarfed what existed before your side brought the welfare state into being. -

People are just retarded. Switzerland is a ‘socialist’ country with a higher per capital income than we have, and more millionaires per capital than we have. A decent education and healthcare system isn’t communism, in fact, it enables entrepreneurship and job creation.

I find it amusing how in America, we’ve been socialized to automatically see anything involving capitalism as automatically good, and anything involving socialism as automatically bad. It’s at the point now where you don’t even have to explain socialism, what it is or what it wants to accomplish, you just have to say the word, throw Obama’s name in there somewhere, and oh noes! Instant scandal! Maybe, just maybe, this country isn’t purely capitalistic, and if it were, it would be a much more terrible place? And maybe, just maybe, socialistic elements have existed here for a very long time, and have done a lot for the greater good, like, say, significantly prolonged people’s lives, with things like social security? When are people going to get it through their heads?
