Mitt Romney Said In 2007 He Would Be "Delighted" To Sign A Bill Banning All Abortions Nationally
The Romney campaign released a statement criticizing Missouri Republican Senate nominee Todd Akin: “Gov. Romney and Congressman Ryan disagree with Mr. Akin’s statement, and a Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape.”But a 2007 statement by Romney at a debate might muddy Romney’s statement, in which Romney said he would be “delighted” to sign a bill banning all abortions, saying it would be “terrific” in we reached consensus in the country. Update Mitt Romney’s 2007 “on the issues” page notes he supports exceptions in cases of rape and incest, but also notes that abortion should be a state issue. Update The Obama campaign says in a statement: “While Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are working overtime to distance themselves from Rep. Todd Akin’s comments on rape, they are contradicting their own records. Mr. Romney supports the Human Life Amendment, which would ban abortion in all instances, even in the case of rape and incest. In fact, that amendment is a central part of the Republican Party’s platform that is being voted on tomorrow.”

Richard Parker 9 months agoThe law doesn’t matter to someone like Romney. Whether abortion is legal or not, he would find a way with all his money to make it happen for a member of his family, just as he has found a way to legally pay — what? — 12% taxes, maximum, for the past ten years? When he should rightfully be contributing more with his millions in the bank? The law doesn’t matter to Romney; he’ll find a way. So, who would this affect? Well, the poor, of course! And, yes, I am aware that this is supposedly Romney’s “former” stance on the issue, but I have a hard time believing it. I have a hard time believing anything at all from a fat cat like Romney. He’s only looking out for the interests of the obscenely rich. If only Romney’s mother had had an abortion… (Oh, yes, I DID say that!)

adam y. 9 months agoHis statement was obviously conditional. He specifically said, “IF we reached that sort of consensus” it would be “wonderful.” He also made it explicitly clear that he understands we are not at that point and that he believes the power to decide abortion laws should be returned to individual states. He has consistently supported exceptions for rape and incest, which is how the law was defined in many states prior to Roe v Wade.

riefer 9 months agoI don’t understand pro-lifers who think abortion is acceptable in cases of rape or incest. Your whole point is that a ball of cells is a person, so abortion is murder in your minds. Yet if the woman was raped, it’s suddenly ok to abort? How does that align with your morals? It seems to me that you’re ok with “innocent” women having abortions, but the dirty filthy ones who *chose* to have sex should be punished with an unwanted baby. That’ll teach ‘em. I’m pro-choice, but I have much more respect for someone who takes a moral position ans stands by it, than I do someone who’s clearly just trying to punish “loose” women.

I don’t care who you are, abortion is murder no matter what happened. unborn children are innocent. If you think its okay, then we should legalize throwing babies in the dumpster too. Better yet, lets kill them right after they are born because their daddy is a rapest and deserve to burn in hell! How you would feel if your mom told you “I almost had an abortion with you.” Not too good huh? But oh well, Obama wants to ban guns, and keep our borders opened to drugs and terrorist. And he could give a rats ass about gays because if he really did care about anything else but socialism and being sn egotistical fcuk with “Obama” care, he would of legalized it by now! Instead, he gives citizenship to non-americans! Lol! He doesn’t give a fcuk about us!!
