As Candidate, Obama Promised Transparency By Posting Bills Online Five Days Before Signing
It’s the kind of campaign promise that seems silly in hindsight. But as a candidate in 2008 while criticizing the Bush Administration as the “most secretive administration in modern history,” then-Senator Obama promised to put all bills online five days before signing to allow the public to comment. It’s a promise he’s broken on about half the bills he signed.

Paul Ander 11 months agoEgo Scriptor has it right. Barack has done a lot more to present transparency than any other President. Perhaps it’s only because we are in the full throes of the Internet Age. Bush did start a small program of informing the public on the Whitehouse.gov site but Barack Obama has expanded. Yet how many of us really can go through the minutiae of all the legislation that passes on to the President’s desk? OpenCongress is an essential site for making that information comprehensible to most of us. I’ve heard that even most Congress Member don’t read the bills they vote upon in their entirety. Maybe what’s needed is a reform on how these bills are written. Perhaps the preparation of these bills for publication is quite a task and one can not lay the blame for any delays entirely on the shoulders of Barack Obama. I give more blame to the do-nothings and the obstructionists of the Republican Party that have stalled or blocked many of the promised changes that candidate Barack Obama proposed back in 2008. Barack Obama is not a miracle worker. He’s working hard against a flawed and faulty Congress. Those flaws and faults are primarily presented by the GOP but the Democratic Party has also dropped the ball on many occasions as well. I give Barack credit for what he has done not what he couldn’t do based upon the realities of real politik.
