Hear Mitt Romney’s New Anthem: "I Built It"
Country musician Lane Turner performed a new song during soundcheck at the Republican National Convention. “I built it with no help from Uncle Sam.”
Turner’s song seems to be a dig at President Obama’s “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that” line.

I built it… I am totally self taught. Everything I know, I know from personal firsthand experience. I have never had anyone teach me a single thing about anything. I mined and gathered all the metals and materials needed to forge all the tools required to assemble a building and start a business, and processed them into the useful items I needed. I went into the forest, chopped down all the wood, and processed it into lumber and paper. I designed and implemented a system to carry electricity to my business and the electrical appliances need to run my business. I cleared and leveled the land to assemble my business upon. I followed my own designs for my business, regardless of any consideration for public or individual safety, or zoning for public compatibility. I went out and cleared, leveled, and paved the land to construct roads and bridges to and from my business. And I did all this without polluting, befouling, or destroying the land, water, or air. I created a system of currency, printed money, and backed the value of that money. All the materials, equipment, and technologies needed for my business I provided all on my own. I am totally self employed, meaning I handle every aspect of my business all by myself. Who needs employees? I solely protect my business from dangers both foreign and domestic, and from threat of fire. If nature destroys my business I will just have to start all over again from scratch. And last but not least, I do not need a community to patronize my business; since customers are not really the heart of a business. I am an island unto myself. Democrat:
Well I feel sorry for you, I did all that with the aid of my family, friends, and community. But unfortunately if Mitt R Money and his boy Paul get into the White House we are ALL going to have to do ALL of that by ourselves, because you will no longer get any help from a Democratically Elected Government of the people, by the people, and for the people. -

To think, all these people attending the RNC have never gotten a loan, hired a contractor, received a scholarship/financial aid, or had loving supportive people to help them out or give them encouragement. Golly gee, they must have never taken tax breaks or worked outside the private sector. And they certainly didn’t rely on contracted tech people to put together that commercial/sound bite where they take Obama’s words entirely out of context in order to incite offense (to be fair, this last bit is a ploy used by both sides).

wwew 8 months agoobama was obviously talking about infrastructure and all the other help people receive from others to become successful, like public schools, the police, the armed services protecting the country from threats, et al. were all in this together and nobody is an island - a completely uncontroversial fact. but leave it to republicans to lie about this and then turn it into the incredibly hypocritical theme for their publicly financed convention that they flew to via the publicly monitored airways and airports, drove to on publicly financed roads and held in a publicly financed building protected by publicly financed police force all while avoiding the storm that we know a bunch about thanks to publicly financed NOAA. and of course almost every “we built this” small business simp that they have featured and will feature have gotten some sort of government assistance all proving obamas point. is it genetically impossible for the republicans to make an honest point?

Abe 8 months agoI don’t know what you’re all complaining about. He “built” that Takamine guitar without Uncle Sam; it’s a Japanese brand built in China. Also Takamine guitars were originally Martin rip-offs, a brand of guitar that’s been built in the US since 1833. Is there anything more American than serenading the political ruling class with shitty music played on cheap imports copied from American ingenuity?
