German Plane Bound For Egypt Makes Emergency Landing After Bomb Threat

Condor Flight DE490 was en route from Berlin to the Egyptian coastal town of Hurghada when it was forced to land in Budapest Monday.

A plane flying from Germany to Egypt was forced to make an emergency landing in Hungary after an "unspecific threat" was made by phone Monday.

Condor Flight DE490 was en route from Berlin to the Egyptian resort town of Hurghada when it was forced to divert to Budapest.

Hungarian police told Reuters the plane had been diverted due to a bomb threat. Police spokesperson Viktoria Csiszer-Kovacs said police were searching passengers and luggage on the jet.

A Condor Airline spokesperson said: "The reason for this diversion is an unspecific threat by phone. The airplane landed safely at 11.42 a.m. local time in Budapest.

"Security is always the highest priority in aviation. The Airbus A321 will be inspected in Budapest according to administrative guidelines by Condor and the authorities."

The 133 passengers and seven crew members have been removed from the plane. Condor has sent another airplane to Budapest to fly passengers to their destination.
